Position Summary
The Vice President of Construction will oversee all aspects of construction, procurement, and operations integration for EE’s portfolio of distributed solar and energy storage projects. This role bridges development and execution, ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest standards of quality, safety, and equity. The VP of Construction will serve as the primary liaison with EPC and O&M partners, lead procurement and QA/QC efforts, support development engineering, and champion workforce development initiatives with partners such as Native Sun.
Key Responsibilities
Construction & Project Delivery
Oversee all phases of construction for distributed solar PV and energy storage projects, from notice to proceed through commissioning.
Serve as the primary liaison with EPC and O&M firms, ensuring adherence to scope, schedule, budget, and safety standards.
Establish and manage QA/QC processes, ensuring all projects meet or exceed utility, lender, and industry standards.
Engineering & Procurement
Provide development engineering support during project design and interconnection studies.
Lead procurement of key equipment (modules, inverters, racking, transformers, BESS systems, etc.), including specification, bid evaluation, and vendor negotiation.
Optimize cost, quality, and delivery timelines in alignment with domestic content and workforce training compliance requirements.
Contracting & Negotiations
Lead negotiation and management of EPC and O&M contracts, ensuring favorable terms for EE and long-term asset reliability.
Coordinate with finance and legal teams to align construction agreements with lender, investor, and regulatory requirements.
Operations & O&M Liaison
Establish seamless handoffs between construction and operations, including warranty and performance testing protocols.
Serve as the liaison to O&M partners, monitoring asset performance and supporting corrective actions when necessary.
Team Leadership & Workforce Development
Build and manage a construction team as EE scales, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and innovation.
Collaborate with workforce development partners (e.g., Native Sun, GRID Alternatives, etc) to create inclusive training and job opportunities across projects.
Qualifications
10+ years of experience in solar PV, renewable energy, or utility-scale construction, with at least 5 years in a senior management role.
Proven track record delivering distributed generation and/or battery energy storage projects.
Strong technical knowledge of solar and storage equipment, interconnection processes, and construction best practices.
Experience negotiating EPC and O&M agreements and managing vendor relationships.
Familiarity with domestic content requirements, workforce development mandates, and equity-based clean energy programs a strong plus.
Exceptional leadership, communication, and project management skills.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
Preferred location based in Minnesota or Illinois
